Biografie
Dr. Markus G. T. Heidingsfelder is an Associate Professor in the Programme of Media and Communication Studies and International Journalism at UIC. He holds a PhD (summa cum laude) from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, and an MA in Theater, Film & TV Science from the University of Cologne. He has taught communication theory, media studies, and journalism at Xiamen University Malaysia, Habib University (Pakistan), Free University Berlin, Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Hafen City University Hamburg, and the German Journalist School (DJS) Munich.
Dr. Heidingsfelder has written and co-edited nine books: Das Gehirn ist genauso doof wie die Milz (The brain is as dumb as the milt, w. P. Besides his academic credentials, Dr. Heidingsfelder has over 30 years of overlapping experience as a communications professional. He worked 10 years as editor-in-chief and TV producer (MTV, Viva Television), 20 years as a documentary film maker, and 30 years as a print and online journalist for major German newspapers and magazines (Spex, Rolling Stone, taz, Die Welt, Zeit Online a.o.) His documentary on Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas ("A Kind of Architect") was shown on French-German culture channel ARTE and released as a DVD and Blueray in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the UK, the US, and Japan; his pop music investigation "Girls in Popsongs" for RBB/ARTE was nominated for the prestigious Grimme prize.
